The Sims 2 — Attack of the Clones!
I’ve been playing for a few hours tonight and a lot has happened since my last update. First Bette aged into a teen and then Constance joined her. Darleen aged into a toddler and Ella was born. Darleen aged into a child and Ella aged into a toddler. So there is much to update.
First let’s look at the teenagers.
This is Armond as a teenager:

And here is Bette:

Clearly these two are unique from one another. Further, Bette has been the only sim born with a unique personality, which I find interesting. She is the only one of the children to inherit her parents’ exact personality, meaning that her personality is genetic while the other four have random personalities.
It is notable and interesting, however, that Bette got the cleft in her chin when she became a teenager. I’m going to have to study up on the genetics of Sim facial features and make some comments on that later on… For tonight I want to get this update done and head for bed!
Moving on, this is Constance’s Teen picture:

My first thought when I saw her as a teen was “damn she’s pretty!” And she is. But why would I think that when I’d already seen Bette? I played for a long time after Bette’s age transition and I wasn’t thinking much about her at the time Constance turned into a teen and moved to college (the last thing to happen before I quit the game for the night).
When I went back and looked at the pictures I couldn’t tell them apart. To be honest, I was both thrilled and disappointed. If I make it through a full 26 offspring at least two children should be clones of one another! But then I took a closer look. Yes, the two oldest girls are very similar in appearance. HOWEVER, the corners of Constance’s mouth turn up whereas Bette’s are straight.
One other interesting note: When did Bette’s eyebrows get thick? Another question of the genetics of facial features!
Those are the three teens separately. Here are their pictures side by side:

That takes care of the teenager portion of today’s post.
Now let’s take a look at the two newest additions to the family: Darleen and Ella.
Darleen was born as the result of Alyssa initiating the “try for baby” interaction. Her stats are as follows:
Neat: 10
Outgoing: 9
Nice: 10
Hair: Black
Eyes: Brown
Skin: Pale
So far the only child with a unique personality is Bette. And she’s bugged, too. I forgot to mention that when she became a teenager she never had the opportunity to choose an aspiration and the lot thinks she’s still on it. So either the lot is bugged or she is. I won’t know until I go into the Sim State Campus to have a look at all the Young Adults when I’m done with the other portions of this stage of the experiment.
Here is Darleen’s Toddler Picture:

Compare to Armond, Bette and Constance’s Toddler pictures.
Well she clearly looks nothing like Constance, who so far has been the most unique-looking toddler (who’s toddler features looked nothing like her teen features!) and the thick eyebrows say she doesn’t look like Bette’s toddler picture either. As always it’s hard to say with Armond because my pictures of him weren’t all that great and he’s of the opposite gender. As a toddler, Darleen is, at this point fairly unique.
Until, that is, we have a good look at Ella:

With Ella’s first age transition we have our first set of clones: Darleen and Ella. We’ll have to see how they grow and whether or not their appearances change — but for right now, they’re clones.
Ella’s stats are as follows:
Neat: 10
Outgoing: 9
Nice: 10
Hair: Black
Eyes: Brown
Skin: Pale
That’s all of the toddlers so far, so let’s have a look at them lined up against one another. Again, keep in mind that Armond’s picture is horrible. My apologies for that!

Moving on to the child stage…
At the child stage Constance and Darleen look like clones. In fact, I can barely tell their pictures apart!
Here is Darleen’s picture as a child:

And the Corbett Children all together:

So far I’m seeing my hypothesis being confirmed. In my game, at least, children are not coming off as clones except when necessary because of the number of children born to the same two parents. I want to try to get a percentage of how often this will happen and report it, but I am at the point where I’m believing that part of the reason parents of all aspirations spin a fear of having a fourth child is because that is the point at which the cloning begins, simply because there are only so many combinations of facial features the children can get!
More later!
Wow, Devin! Your blog is so interesting! I can’t believe how much Darleen and Ella resembled each other while toddlers, and then Constance and Darleen in childhood. I can’t wait to see all the children, that is, however many you can stand.
This is great that you’re doing this. It’s so neat! Keep up the great work!
